Care notes for every hair type
The same bows and beads behave differently on every head of hair. Here is how to hold each style — and keep the hair healthy underneath it.
Coily & Kinky
Type 4A–4CTight zig-zag curls with the most shrinkage and the least natural oil travel from root to tip. Strong, but the driest texture and the easiest to break when combed dry.
Daily care
- Only detangle on damp hair with conditioner in it, using the wide-tooth comb from the ends upward.
- Moisturize daily with a water-based leave-in, then seal with an oil or butter.
- Keep bows and elastics loose at the root — tension along the hairline is what causes thinning edges.
- Sleep in a satin scarf or bonnet; cotton pillowcases pull the moisture straight out.

Curly
Type 3A–3CDefined spirals and ringlets with plenty of body. Frizzes when it is over-brushed and loses its curl pattern when handled while dry.
Daily care

- Never brush dry curls — separate with fingers or the pick comb at the root only for volume.
- Refresh in the morning with a water mist instead of rewashing.
